Argentina beats SA hockey team

HIGHWAY residents were in for a treat as the Kearney Ladies and Men’s Hockey Club hosted the second match in a five test series between South Africa and Argentina on Thursday 12 December.
On Thursday the Argentinians, who recently finished third in the World Hockey League, won the second match 1 – 0. Both teams defended fiercely, but ultimately the winning goal was scored from a penalty corner.
It was a low drag flick to the bottom left of the goal. SA attempted several goals, but could not get past the Argentinian’s defence.
The opening match was hosted by the Riverside Hockey Club in Durban North on Wednesday 11 December. Argentina also won the first match 4 – 2.
SA also lost the third match, 3 – 2 at the Queensmead Hockey Stadium on Saturday 14 December, and 7 – 3 on Monday 16 December.
Argentina owned the series with a 4 – 0 win with the fifth and final match on Tuesday at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus.
