Highway high-flying fishers honoured

Fly fishing is a growing pastime for juniors, men and women.

LOCAL fly fishers received top honours at the KwaZulu-Natal Fly Fishing Association’s (KZNFFA) annual awards for the 2012/13 Fishing Season in Westville recently.

Two Highway residents, Marc Touzel and Greg Zeiler, were awarded their KZN colours last week.

Former colours recipient, Dr Gillies McDavid from Westville, was awarded top senior angler on the ranking list for the second consecutive year, alongside team mate Linda Gorlei who received the top female angler award.

Fly fishing is a growing pastime, and with KwaZulu-Natal offering some pristine trout and yellowfish waters ideally suited for the sport, it allows one to be surrounded by nature.

This challenging discipline of fishing is growing for both recreational and competitive anglers including juniors and women. There are various clubs that offer a social fishing aspect, fishing waters for anglers to enjoy as well as related hobbies such as fly tying.

The Durban Fly Tyers meet on the first Monday evening of every month at the Westville Library and the KZNFFA hosts a series of league fishing events in the Kamberg and Underberg areas throughout the fishing season.

Registration for the new season is opening next week, contact Linda on 083 631 5301 or e-mail: linda@xis.co.za, should you be interested in joining the league or getting involved in some social fly tying with Durban Fly Tyers.
