Soccer legends descend on Durban

Liverpool Legends take on Kaizer Chiefs Legends at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday 16 November 2013.

DURBAN is in for a real treat when some of the greatest names in the history of Liverpool Football Club lock horns with Kaizer Chiefs legends in an exhibition match at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday 16 November at 2pm (kickoff).

The match is a culmination of the three-day tour of KZN, and forms part of the Liverpool Legends 5Times South Africa Tour 2013. The tour includes a golf day at the Zimbali Country Club on Wednesday 13 November, a gala dinner on Thursday 14 November, as well as coaching clinics and autograph signing sessions for fans to meet their heroes off the pitch.

The Liverpool Legends side will be packed with European champions and some of the top names in the club’s history, covering the glory period from the 1960s through to the last decade.

The likes of former defender Phil Neal, who won an astonishing 22 medals during his time at Anfield, former Kop favourite and England international John Barnes, twin strike sensations John Aldridge and Robbie Fowler as well as Durban born goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, are just some of the top players who will be part of the tour.

John Barnes said it was an honour to play in front of passionate fans and show some of the skills that not only won Liverpool many trophies but millions of friends around the world too.

“We have a great respect for the Kaizer Chiefs club, who are SA’s most successful team. They too have had many great players down the years and we look forward to locking horns with them,” said Barnes.

Kaizer Chiefs have called upon great names in the club’s history such as Doctor Khumalo, Lucas Radebe, John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu and Neil Tovey.

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo said the team had some great players in its history and for those that never saw them play in their prime, this would be a wonderful opportunity to show the younger fans the skills that made these players such legends.

Liverpool was formed in 1892 and won 18 English League titles, seven FA Cups, and are five-time European Champions.

Tickets which cost R45 (north and south stand-unreserved) and R90 (east and west stand-reserved) are on sale at Computicket. Tickets for the golf day and gala dinner can be reserved at www.liverpoollegends.co.za
