A local helicopter pilot recently won her first international race at the MTB Masters Wold Champs.

NEDENE Cahill (Moly Neaux), a helicopter pilot from Westville, won a gold medal at the UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Championships held in Pietermaritzburg between 21 and 25 August.

Cahill competed in the women’s 30 to 34 category and dominated her competitors.

Cahill said she started mountain biking as a hobby, but she has slowly evolved into a serious competitive racer.
She is specifically passionate about marathon and cross-country racing.

“This race was my first international win. I set out with the goal to win the race. I knew I had a couple of strong local competitors, but focused on preparing myself mentally, as well as physically,” said Cahill.

Cahill is considering defending her title at the UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Champs next year.
