Security guard sentenced to 10 years for theft

Tshepo Alfred Ramabele stole computers and generators during the 2021 KZN July unrest.

A 35-year-old man who was a security guard was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court for housebreaking and theft.

Tshepo Alfred Ramabele was arrested following an incident that took place on July 13, 2021, during the KZN unrest.

Captain Bongumusa Manqele, Pinetown Cluster communications officer, said the accused broke into a motorbike shop on St John’s Avenue in Pinetown in full uniform and stole computers and generators.

“The stolen items were loaded into his vehicle. The accused was arrested after the video footage was viewed by the owner of the shop and detectives,” said Manqele.

Ramabele appeared in court several times before he was convicted and sentenced.
