Youth empowerment organisation celebrates 20 years of giving hope

Focus on iThemba Organisation reaches milestone in youth empowerment.

THE organisation, Focus on iThemba, looked back at their vision as they celebrated 20 years of existence. Starting their journey in 2003, founders Danie and Judy van den Heever’s dream came true when their aspiration to facilitate significant change for the youth in the Valley of 1000 Hills was realised.

The 20-year milestone was celebrated on Thursday, June 15, together with longstanding friends, partners and key donors who share Focus on iThemba’s vision.

“Through faith, a strong calling to make a difference and the support of key donors, Focus on iThemba was established. Focus on iThemba is a registered non-profit organisation (Section 18A) with a vision – To Grow Hearts and Minds.

“Twenty years later, the NPO’s reach now extends to over 2 000 children, teachers and parents in their iThemba Educare Programme, through their partnerships with twelve low-income preschools – and sixteen iThemba scholars currently attending Waterfall Schools from grades 0000 to 9,” they said.

The team extended their gratitude to the iThemba Campus which is now also home to Waterfall Schools. They said the impact is furthermore felt by nearly 800 families who enjoy the 41-acre campus situated in Hillcrest.

Team leader Tayla-Anne Goss said, “We are acutely aware of the privileged position we find ourselves in, surrounded by people who have bought into our vision and whose ongoing loyalty, support and prayers have carried us through the past two decades. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who have walked our journey with us, and we look towards the future with hope, inspiration and expectation of great things to come for our community.”
