Bellair CPF youth desk shines spotlight on talent

The upcoming talent show takes on added significance this month as it is Youth Month.

THE Bellair Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD) is hoping the community comes out in their numbers to support The Stars of Bellair talent show on Saturday, June 24.

The youth desk, a sub-forum of the Bellair CPF, is involved in various community programmes and actively encourages youth participation through various crime-prevention activities.

The upcoming talent show, which will feature an array of performers between the ages of five and 19 within the Bellair precinct, takes on added significance this month as it is Youth Month.

Kyara Naicker, the public relations officer for the YPCD, and the event coordinator, spoke to Queensburgh News about the idea behind the talent show.

“This Youth Month, we wanted to do something different. We’ve helped out in the past with food distributions and assisted in outreach programmes, but we wanted an event of our own. It really is about supporting young people’s talents and giving them an opportunity to shine. We also hope to use the event as a social crime-prevention strategy by taking our message to the youth. It is also an opportunity to forge a stronger bond with the Bellair SAPS and play our part in reducing crime in the community.

“We have a mixture of talents on the day, including a singer, rapper, dancer and a karate performance. We really want to encourage residents to come out in their numbers and support the show and give the youth that lift by cheering for them in the crowd. This is the first time we are hosting a show like this, and our aim going forward is to make it an annual event,” Naicker said.
