IN PICS: Crowds cheer runners in Pinetown

Tete Dijana was crowned 2023 Comrades Marathon champion on Sunday. The South African ran a time of 05:13:58 in a new course record.

A CONVIVIAL Comrades spirit prevailed on Sunday as Highway supporters woke up early to cheer the runners along the route.

In Josiah Gumede Road, Pinetown, crowds gathered with their camp chairs, picnic baskets and braai stands to support the runners.

The ultimate human race was won by Tete Dijana, claiming his second successive Comrades Marathon title. He crossed the finish line at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in a time of 05:13:58 in a new course record.

The 34-year-old was considered a race favourite ahead of this year’s marathon in what was only his third Comrades Marathon.
