Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association made possible by support

THE Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association acknowledges the support from the community and their staff members who have kept the place running since 2009. This comes after the association was recognised by Mpact for being the community recycling site with the highest tonnage collected of paper and cardboard.

Marge Mitchell of the association said the award was made possible by their staff members and the community.

“The recycling centre of the association in Delamore Road is a busy one and is well supported by members of the public from the surrounding suburbs. From its establishment, the centre has provided a revenue stream which supplements the wages of the staff employed by the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association,” she said.

The staff members are Doris Mazeka, Vukani Cele and Nqobilo Mazeka. The staff members are tasked with sorting the many materials dropped at the centre which is labour-intensive work sorting bottles, cans, paper, cardboard and polystyrene.

“They are well-versed in what may and may not be dropped off at the centre and at times are required to appeal to some members of the public not to bring their household and garden refuse. The staff are well-liked by the public and conduct themselves in a professional and polite manner at all times, even when they are at times having to deal with irascible members of the public,” said Mitchell

She further said they are still dealing with the problem of illegal dumping and appealed again to the public to respect the centre and staff – who are on duty weekdays and weekends and public holidays.
