Food outlets fined for non-compliance in Pinetown Central

The Pinetown Central Business District was raided during the municipal Mother of All Clean-ups campaign.

THE eThekwini Municipality has noted a series of non-compliance and food-safety concerns at food outlets operating in the Pinetown Central Business District. This was discovered during the City’s Mother of All Clean-ups campaign that took place in Pinetown on Monday, 30 January.

According to the City, the inspections by their Environmental Health Officers discovered dirty working conditions, the lack of provision of protective clothing for workers, no protection from dust, and swarms of flies at the food outlets.

“A food outlet selling shawarmas was fined for non-compliance with health standards. The outlet in Hill Street was fined for not having a Certificate of Acceptability and operating in dirty conditions. The outlet is also operating without a business licence,” reported the City.

The City said all the non-compliant businesses were fined. The campaign also included fixing potholes and cleaning Pinetown.
