Upper Highway’s Valley Trust gets a revamp

The Valley Trust is delighted at the support from local businesses.

VARIOUS businesses have come on board to help revamp The Valley Trust (TVT) property in KwaNyuswa.

TVT is a non-profit organisation established in 1953 and is situated in the Valley of 1000 Hills.

It began as the outreach unit for the clinic established by Dr Halley Stott. Today, the Trust continues to work to improve the well-being of rural communities through the early development of children, focused on educational and nutritional support.

Nozipho Zikhali, TVT property officer, said their property and buildings have been in need of a revamp for some time now. “The roof was leaking, and our buildings were in need of painting, so we reached out to the local business community for their support, and the response was great.”

Zikhali said this is an ongoing project and appealed to businesses or individuals to help revamp the place which helps the community with various skills and projects.

Among their goals for the year is to also open a creche. “We are in need of educational toys, kids furniture, jungle gym and paint,” said Pippa Whittle, business-development specialist.

“We have a hall, conference rooms, overnight accomodation and offices for rent. The money we make helps us with some of the many projects that we do.

“We also have a charity shop. The Khethokuhle Charity Shop, situated on our property, contributes to our fundraising efforts and relies on donations of preloved goods to keep our shelves full and customers happy,” she said.

This year, TVT is looking to utilise its property to generate further income to support their projects.

“We have our flagship project, KhulaKahle Mntwana (isiZulu for Grow well, child), to build the skills of rural mothers and grandmothers to ensure the healthy growth of young children.

“Our Valley Youth opportunity centre has a computer lab, which prepares young people with computer skills they will need for a productive adulthood,” added Zikhali.

Zikhali thanked Valley Trading, Shaves Paint Pinetown, Build it Botha’s Hill, Jurgens Plumbers and Crown Buildmor Hardware.
