Staying fit and happy

Forest Hills Sports Club offers community members a chance to bond and spend time together during their runs.

EMOTIONAL health is as important as physical health, and these are the standards at the Forest Hills athletic club. Community members believe they have turned friends into family through the athletic club. The club is formed by Forest Hills’ residents who are keeping fit by either running, jogging or walking.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, the club’s chairperson, Jo Wild, said the club’s goal is keeping everyone happy and fit. “We have different membership clubs that people can join. We meet every week to jog in our different groups. The idea of running in groups is to keep safe on our routes and to know exactly who is with whom. We also have different programmes where members keep track of their progress, and the most-improved member gets an award. This is to encourage competition within yourself,” said Wild.

One of their programmes is the weekly time trials that aim to build upon and maintain their regular exercise. Join them every Wednesday evening on the verandah of the Forest Hills Sports Club from 17:00, with the 2km, 4km and 8km run/walk starting at 17:30. The club shared the health benefits of regular running, jogging and walking. Here are some of these benefits:
– helps build strong bones as it is a weight-bearing exercise
– strengthens muscles
– improves cardiovascular fitness
– improves health markers.
