Kloof sculpture garden is paradise for art lovers

Ammazulu Garden and Sculpture Precinct, a hidden gem in the suburb of Kloof, is well worth a visit for art aficionados.

THE Ammazulu Garden and Sculpture Precinct is the perfect destination for a leisurely weekend stroll in the great outdoors. Make the most of our warm weather in the Upper Highway and view art exhibitions in one of five galleries or spot extraordinary sculptures hiding in the green foliage in the gardens.  After walking past enormous dragonflies, hippos hiding in the shrubs and flowers made from recycled plastic, stop at the pavilion for a meal or coffee break.

The 20 acre property is the home of architect Peter Amm, and was opened to the public in 2020. The property has five art galleries, more than 100 intriguing sculptures on the garden walk and a centrally positioned, alfresco restaurant.

The galleries are fast becoming an important venue for exhibitions. One gallery, close to the coffee shop, houses a permanent display by world renowned local sculptor and political activist, Andries Botha. The exhibition entitled ‘…it takes everything’, is curated by Janine Zagel and Jessica Bothma. The work explores the human journey in South Africa, over the last four decades.
