New sculpture exhibition opens in Kloof
Sculptor Robin Moodley's solo exhibition, 'Time in Space and Time in Memory' begins at the AmmaZulu Sculpture Gardens on Saturday, 30 July at 2pm.
AWARD- winning sculptor, Robin Moodley, opens a new solo exhibition at AmmaZulu Gardens and Sculpture Precinct in Kloof, on Saturday 30 July.
Called ‘Time in Space and Time in Memory’, the exhibition is broken up into two parts. The first is at the AmmaZulu Gardens and the second will be at the KZNSA Gallery in Glenwood, opening on Friday, 12 August.
The sculptor commutes between his Cliffdale studio and his Manor Gardens home. The artist is a University Durban Westville graduate, where he focused on painting, printmaking and life-drawing. Moodley worked under luminaries like Jeff Chandler, Virginia MacKenny, Jeremy Wafer and Andries Botha while at Natal Technikon. His first two-person exhibition was in 1989 at the NSA Gallery, Overport City.
Moodley ran his own interior design practice and worked with children at the Street Wise organization for four years. Three years ago, he made the decision to follow his passion for art full time and to establish a subsistence food farm in the Valley of 1000 Hills.

This exhibition by Moodley aims to help us understand the concept of our one humanity while thinking of how time, space and circumstance shape us.
Moodley says,” Ultimately it is hope and love which stands the test of time, while so much of what we consider precious is impermanent,” says Moodley. “The social structure enforces disenfranchisement and fractured identity. We need to find the essence and commonality which resides within all of us so that we can collectively celebrate our one humanity.”
Moodleys exhibition is housed in the art shed at AmmaZulu Garden and Sculpture Precinct, Kloof. The gardens include an indigenous forest, outdoor sculptures, tea garden and art studios.
