Suspect in court for escaping from lawful custody

A man was arrested by the Malvern police after he was found in possession of stolen property, and shortly after, he attempted to escape lawful custody.

A SUSPECT is to appear before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested for escaping from lawful custody, damage to infrastructure and for being in possession of stolen property. 

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the 30-year-old man was arrested by the Malvern police on July 26. 

“The suspect was found in possession of a copper meter tap, copper fittings and copper pipes valued at R2 000. He was caught on Morrison Road in Queensburgh. 

“On the following day, a police officer was conducting further investigation with the suspect when the suspect attacked him. The suspect attempted to flee from the community service centre and he ran towards the street,” she said.
