The Inchanga choo-choo is back for a second fundraising Open Day Festival

Wesley, the restored vintage locomotive, is puffing into a station near you. Climb aboard for ‘shortie’ trips to raise funds to rebuild the railway track.

THE Inchanga choo-choo is hosting a second fundraising Open Day Festival, offering mini steam-train trips, a fabulous craft and food market, and lots of train-themed attractions on Sunday, July 31 at Inchanga Station.

Wesley, the refurbished vintage steam locomotive, will be doing regular ‘shortie’ trips.

The Umgeni Steam Railway was severely impacted by the KZN floods in April and is currently attempting to raise funds to rebuild and repair the damaged railway track. R2m is needed to complete the refurbishment of the flood-damaged railway line. You can now support the fundraising efforts while having fun with your family.

You can buy a single ticket or a day pass that allows for multiple trips. Wesley will be doing trips hourly from 09:00 until 14:00.

The Inchanga Craft Market will be in full swing with dozen of stalls offering family-friendly locally-sourced fare. There is also a tea garden offering a range of light meals and snacks, a play area and a picnic site. The market will operate from 08:00 until 14:00.

Have you ever wanted to experience being in a steam locomotive while it is in operation and seeing what the driver and fireman do? Now is your opportunity! You can be one of 12 passengers in the locomotive while out on a fun ride. You have to be 16 years or older, wearing dark jeans and a dark shirt and closed shoes. For only R300pp per trip, you can have a footplate experience.

The Inchanga Railway Museum will be open for tours, and the model railway, Thomas and Friends, will be operational in the Modeller’s Hut. Tours will be offered through the shed to see the 110-year-old steam locomotive named Maureen, which is under repair.
