Keep Pinetown Beautiful continues to clean up

A newly formed volunteer group makes a difference, one bag of rubbish at a time. To find out more about their ongoing projects, read further.

KEEP Pinetown Beautiful (KPB), a newly formed community group, continues to make improvements in Pinetown neighbourhoods.

The mission of the group is to make their town a safe, prosperous and beautiful environment.

KPB organises regular community events with volunteer groups picking up litter from the roads and verges in the main thoroughfares of Pinetown. Earlier this month, over 300 glass bottles were retrieved from the verges of Old Main Road in Pinetown, between Sandy’s Center and the nearby girls’ high school.

Residents from nearby Hatton Estates joined the initiative and hosted a successful community clean-up of their own.

Another ongoing project for the KPB group is the volunteer-driven clean-up of the Palmiet River bed in Cowies Hill Park.

“The clean-up progress along the Palmiet River is beginning to look remarkable. It’s rewarding to know that there are members of our community who are going the extra mile to restore our environment,” says Zane Wallensky, one of the founding members of Keep Pinetown Beautiful.

The volunteers have hauled up over 100 bags of unwanted plastic and other debris from the river bed to date.

Should you wish to join this initiative or one of the group’s community clean-up events, bring your gloves, black bags and a willingness to restore the neighbourhood.
