Shongweni market owners and stallholders rebuild collapsed road
With help from eThekwini municipality, who are supplying the skills, machinery and manpower, the market owners are confident they will get the road fixed.
THE Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market, along with the stallholders, have taken on the sole responsibility of supplying the materials for the reconstruction and refurbishment of the road (now with a large hole) that leads to the market.
The market has been closed since the road leading to the market collapsed following April’s heavy rains.

According to a Facebook post by The Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market: “Together with eThekwini Municipality, who are supplying the skills, machinery and manpower, we will get this all fixed and the market open!”
“The joy it gives us to see progress finally starting is immense. The process is overseen by market owner Keith Standeaven. He is one of the team members that has been working to get quotes and supplies with various providers, to get this sorted as quickly as possible,” read the post.
The public is urged to not try and utilise the access route until the repairs are finished.
Market supporters and fans will be updated as often as possible on the progress of the reconstruction and as soon as they have a timeline on when the market will be opening.
