According to the retirement’s general manager, Steve van Rooyen, the elderly residents of the village were awoken by loud noises. When they went outside they saw a massive landslide had broken their sewerage line and washed away the back wall and gate of their village.

Thankfully residents were unharmed and moved to a safer facility.

Van Rooyen said, “We activated the alarm and got the residents to evacuate into our hall. We have now placed residents into the frail care facility as we had 20 rooms available.”

Van Rooyen told the Highway Mail that he has tried to contact the municipality but had not received any response.

“We have sand and water rushing into the road which is causing a major obstruction,” said a concerned van Rooyen.

Van Rooyen is pleading for assistance from anyone who can help with the drainage issue.
