No Covid-19 symptoms? No need to isolate, says Presidency

The South African Presidency also announced that the isolation period for those with symptoms has been reduced from 10 to seven days.

The isolation period for those with symptoms has also been reduced by three days, from 10 to seven days.

These decisions were made following a special Cabinet meeting held on Monday as the county exits the fourth wave.

In a press statement issued by Mondli Gungubele, a minister in the presidency, it stated that the decisions were made based on the trajectory of the pandemic as well as the levels of vaccination in the country.

“The rationale for these amendments is informed by the proportion of people with immunity to Covid-19 which has risen substantially, exceeding 60-80% in several sero-surveys” the statement said.

“The information gathered through the system used by the Department of Health has reported that South Africa has exited the fourth wave nationally.”

Cabinet also announced that primary, secondary and special schools will revert to operating daily. The social distancing of one meter apart for learners has been revoked.
