“Given what these young women endured through 2020 and 2021, they have proven themselves to be an exceptionally strong cohort, both academically and emotionally,” said the school’s executive principal, Jonathan Manley.

Six girls featured in the commendable and outstanding lists and some learners placed in the top 1% in their subject in the country.

“This is a reflection of the commitment and support that exists at St Mary’s between the educators, parents and learners,” said Manley.

Erin Lombard, Daniella Samouilhan, Shannah Steele, Megan Turner, Cerian Fourie, Skye Scoular placed in the top 5% of learners who wrote the IEB examinations.

“The unrest that arose during July last year added to the stress and uncertainty that was already unprecedented due to the pandemic. Although the matric year is often seen in isolation because of the results, the way this cohort has performed speaks to the character of the individuals at St Mary’s DSG,” he added.

Manley added that the school’s average for individual subjects was above the national average in every subject.
