Robin Hood Foundation founder, Cindy Norcott launched her second book, How Does She Do It?

HIGHWAY resident and inspirational businesswoman, Cindy Norcott released her second book, How Does She Do It?.

Her first book, How to be Unstoppable reached bestseller status and is a behind-the-scenes look into the world of a female entrepreneur trying to balance work, life and everything in-between.

Norcott started her own business at the age of 23. Since then, the wife and mother of two girls has become unstoppable as she is a certified business coach and an international motivational speaker. She has also won many awards through the years.

Wanting to do more and give back, Norcott started The Robin Hood Foundation in 2005, which has helped thousands of people in KwaZulu-Natal.

In this powerful book, the humble Norcott opens up about being successful, but not perfect, and how this is ‘totally okay’.

Norcott gave us an in-depth look at of the inspiration behind this book:

What inspired you to write this book?

I wrote this book because I have been speaking about various topics for many years, so I decided I would like to consolidate my ideas into one book. My main motivation for this book is that I believe that women in business are incredibly hard on themselves. We are always searching for that elusive balance and we often live under the belief that others have it all together. I wanted to demystify these thoughts and flatten the playing fields. Nobody has got it all together and, often, behind-the-scenes is messy and very imperfect, and that is ok. I want to see women stop being so hard on themselves.

Can you tell us more about the book?

The book is essentially me sharing the story of my journey in business and life. Every chapter covers a particular area of my life where I appear to be winning, but I unpack the back story behind any apparent success that people might think I have achieved.

What did you learn when writing the book?

I learned that it is possible to write a book in a very short time. I gave myself a few weeks. I resonate with the quote – ‘You don’t need more time, you need a deadline’.

What surprised you the most?
I felt very vulnerable, exposing my behind-the-scenes life and challenges and writing about my weaknesses, failures and foibles. I suppose that I am putting myself out there and I risk people not liking my book.

Is the title of the book related to your personal experiences and what can others learn from it?
This book is definitely related to my life. I used the title, ‘How does she do it?’ because this is a question people ask me all the time. On the surface, I look like I am achieving all of my goals with apparent ease. In this book, I take myself off any pedestal that I might have been put on and I share what I have learned over the past 28 years of being a businesswoman, trying to juggle business, family and life.

What can people expect?
I believe that readers will get a lot of humour, practical wisdom and nuggets about a myriad of subjects. I think any woman reading this book will relate to my struggles and can learn from some of my lessons that I have learned the hard way.
