Pinetown SAPS hosts crime awareness motorcade

This event forms part of a string of festive season awareness campaigns that will be hosted by police and various stakeholders.

PINETWON SAPS, along with various stakeholders, held a motorcade on Friday, November 5 to increase police visibility in the area and create awareness about crime that specifically affects those living and working in Pinetown.

According to Pinetown SAPS spokesperson, Captain Bongumusa Manqele, the event was a partnership between SAPS, the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, eThekwini Municipality’s Safer Cities, the Community Policing Forum, private security companies and community members.

“The awareness campaign was aimed at warning the community about crimes such as armed robbery, theft out of a motor vehicle, cybercrime and other crimes that become prevalent during this time of the year,” said Manqele.

The motorcade kicked off at Glenugie Park and headed into New Germany and ended at the taxi rank. Pamphlets that contained crime awareness tips were also distributed to members of the public.

“Awareness was also created among motorists, requesting them to be vigilant when approaching intersections and traffic lights and to ensure that their windows are closed properly and their doors locked as, overlooking this safety measure, it would make them victims of crime,”
