Abandoned dog gives birth two days after rescue

The pregnant pooch was taken in and is being cared for by the dedicated team at Animal Antics Pet Rescue.

IT was just two days after Minka was taken in by the team at Animal Antics Pet Rescue that she gave birth to a litter of 10 puppies.

Sam De Wet, one of the founder members of the NPC in Botha’s Hill, said the heavily pregnant dog was living in the Cornubia industrial area for about six months.

On August 8, the team received a phone call asking for assistance to help the pregnant dog.

“We had a kennel open and we couldn’t leave her out on her own about to give birth,” said De Wet. “She arrived here a little nervous, of course, and had us up at 04:00 barking and howling.”

Later that day, she began nesting and started with contractions. By 22:00 on August 9, six puppies were delivered. The next morning the dedicated team reported that there were 10 puppies and were beyond excited to find out each of their personalities.

“Unfortunately, three of her pups didn’t make it. They were so small. Minka is such a good mommy, and just the sweetest girl ever. She is so trusting,” said De Wet.
