Man accused of looting to remain in custody
According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Natasha Kara, the man handed himself over to police after a warrant of arrest was issued on July 27.
THE 30-year-old Durban man, who went viral on social media during the recent looting spree, will remain in custody until August 3.
The man, who was videoed walking back to his Mercedes Benz with a basket of items from a popular retail store in Glenwood, made his first appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on July 29.

Refuting the claims made against him, the man posted a status on Twitter after the incident. In his post, he stated he was not looting, but was shopping and was arrested by police.
According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Natasha Kara, the man handed himself over to police yesterday after a warrant of arrest was issued on July 27.
“He appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today on charges of public violence, theft, trespassing and contravention of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2000 (operating a motor vehicle with a number plate displaying a license number not applicable to the motor vehicle),” said Kara.
”His appearance relates to the looting of a store in the Glenwood area on July 12, 2021, during the acts of public violence that took place in various parts of the province,” she added.
