WATCH: Hillcrest learners share heartfelt messages of hope and unity
Headmaster, Craig Girvin said he was encouraged by Nelson Mandela's quote. 'It is so easy to break down and destroy. The heroes are those who make peace and build.'
FOLLOWING the unrest which erupted in KZN last week, the Grade 12 learners from Hillcrest High School compiled a video to thank the community and encourage unity in these trying times.
Headmaster, Craig Girvin said the school wishes to thank everyone who was involved recently in protecting the Upper Highway community.

“We hope that all members of our school community managed to remain safe during the tragic events that unfolded in our country last week.
“Our thoughts are with all those who were adversely affected, in whatever way, by these events. I have been encouraged by the following two quotations over the last few days, especially as we have seen communities come together in response to the troubles,” said Girvin.
He said the two quotes that has kept him going is by former president Nelson Mandela, ‘It is so easy to break down and destroy. The heroes are those who make peace and build.’

“The second quote is by Aaron Paquette which says, ‘Every act of evil unleashes a million acts of kindness. This is why shadows will never win while there is still light to shine’.
The headmaster also expressed his special thanks to members of the local community forums who were on patrol last week and helped to ensure the schools and other facilities were not affected by the violent protests.
