Robin Hood distributes 20 tons of food to communities

Founder of the Robin Hood foundation, Cindy Norcott appealed for the public to continue supporting their outreach programmes as job losses increase.

DURBAN-BASED NPO, Robin Hood Foundation distributed more than 20 tons of food in the past week to over 50 communities.

The foundation’s founder, Cindy Norcott appealed to the public to continue supporting their outreach programmes so they can help those in need.

Norcott said last week, KZN and Gauteng experienced the most insidious systematic looting and destruction of shops, businesses, warehouses and property on a scale that has resulted in the decimation of the supply chain of food in the province.

“Many businesses have been destroyed and people have run out of food. Even if people have money to buy food, there is limited access to food supplies. I know that food is starting to arrive but the biggest problem I see going forward is the looming humanitarian crisis that will ensue,” said a concerned Norcott.

With Covid-19 and the lockdown, which resulted in widespread poverty, Norcott said there will be more hunger and a greater desperation as more people close businesses, resulting in job losses.

The foundation, which has been operating in KZN for the past 16 years with the help of volunteers, recently started sourcing eggs, potatoes and vegetables.

“From Saturday morning, July 24, we start distributing food into the poorest communities via church workers, community workers and NPOs that we have had relationships with over the years,” said Norcott.

You can assist the foundation in the following ways:

  • If you are able to donate towards the purchase of staple foods and vegetables, the following banking details can be used: Nedbank current account – 1648160948. The branch code is 198765. If anyone is donating from overseas, the SWIFT code is NEDSZAJJ. Every Rand donated will go directly to the purchase of food.
