Looters hit Knowles SPAR as violent protests continues

The public has been advised to be on alert as reports of vandalism and violence continues across the province.

KNOWLES SPAR is the latest store to be hit in looting incidents which have been taking place all around KZN.

According to reports, R100 million worth of damaged has been recorded in the province.

The protests in KZN and Gauteng were started after the arrest of former president Jacob Zuma.

A source told the Highway Mail that stock was stolen at Knowles SPAR but praised police officers for their swift response which lead to the arrest of some perpetrators.  

This afternoon, a video of people outside Pick n Pay in Caversham surfaced.

In Clermont, crowds of people were are breaking into shops. People can be seen carrying iron boards, mops and other house items.

Boxer Store has just been recently broken into and crowds of people can be seen in video footage fleeing with grocery items.

The public has been advised to be wary as reports of vandalism continue.

Andreas Mathios, from Marshall Security, confirmed the incident and said the suspects who broke into Tops at Knowles SPAR were arrested after trying to flee the scene.

According to Mathios, the suspects were chased by members of the neighborhood watch after getting into their getaway vehicle. 

Roy Sheodin, owner of Knowles Spar was unable to comment at the time of going to print.
