Motorists are advised to continue to avoid the area, said Tyron Powell of Marshall Security.

“The area is still tense with members of Metro Police still standing off. The road is closed. If you are travelling toward Umgeni, in a westerly direction, the road is still closed by Metro Police, which means Alpine Road will still be affected and this will affect traffic flow into the Durban CBD,” he said.

“There are no reports of stone-throwing at the moment. Everything seems to be under control at this stage, but it is still tense in the area and we are asking members of the public to comply with the safety instructions of all officials,” said Powell.
