Kloof SPCA ensures Shongweni rescue survives maggot-infested leg wounds

After nearly two months of ongoing care, the loving dog is now up for adoption.

AFTER surviving a possible snare and maggot-infected wounds, Noodle is now fully healed and available for adoption at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

According to the animal welfare’s Brigitte Ferguson, the dog was taken to the NPO by a member of the public on 6 May this year.

“He was found in the Shongweni area and we suspected that he had been caught in a snare. He had severe wounds to his hind leg, where we could see the bones and tendons. The wounds had also become extremely infected and infested by maggots,” she said.

The dog was believed to have a broken leg, but, after an X-ray, it was discovered the bones were still intact.

After weeks of sedations, wound cleans, bandage changes and multiple courses of antibiotics, the team said Noodle continued to be a happy, loving dog.

“This boy is the epitome of the gentlest creature. Despite all the adversity he must have faced in his life, he has still chosen to trust people, even those that were not worthy of such love from a dog of this calibre,” said Ferguson.

To schedule an appointment to meet Noodle, contact the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s adoption officer, Tania, via email at adoption@kloofspca.co.za.
