Pinetown couple share a special bond

Trevor and Cheryl Loader celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

SHARING is the key that has kept Trevor and Cheryl Loader happily married for 50 years.

The Pinetown couple met at an ice skating venue in Durban as skating was a popular social event back in the day.

“I saw him first,” said Cheryl. Trevor and Cheryl, who both grew up in Durban, said they use to go ice skating with friends on weekends. “We travelled on the same bus and his strong arms attracted me to him,” she said.

“Eventually he asked me out on a date and that is where our love journey began,” said Cheryl.

The Loaders tied the knot at the Frere Presbyterian Church in Durban, now known as the Glenwood Presbyterian Church, on 19 June 1971.

Despite being diagnosed with cancer, experiencing a stroke and sustaining severe injuries in a bike accident, Trevor still helps out around the house and enjoys cooking.

Being a handy man, Trevor still repairs things around the house if he can.

“We share everything, there is no ‘I’ or mine in our marriage, everything is ours. Even though we may have our differences, we always kiss each other goodnight,” he said.

Cheryl said her husband is a patient man and she loves his tenacity.

The love birds have been residing in the same house in Pinetown for the past 48 years and are blessed with three sons and six grandchildren.
