Help create hope with Hillcrest Rotarians

Sign up now to compete in the worthwhile fundraiser.

IN a move to highlight World Hunger Day, the Rotary Club of Hillcrest will host a Hunger Challenge fundraiser on Saturday, 29 May at the Hillcrest Sports Club from 10am to 2pm.

There are a number of activities that can be done on the day including a virtual walk (1km, 5km or 10km) that can be completed between 28 to 30 May. Alternatively, supporters can opt to make a donation and not take part in the physical exercise.

The Rotary Club of Hillcrest’s president, Dennis Wesley, said, “Currently, more than 821 million people do not have enough to eat. A situation which is only being exacerbated by the current Covid-19 pandemic. Not only will this initiative help to address part of the massive hunger problem around us, but it will also enable us to network with the many corporates and other friends of Rotary around the world.”

Supporters can also choose to help fill Jars of Hope. These containers are filled with a mixture of rice, soup mix, lentils, stock cubes and soup powder. Recipients only need to add 2.5l of water and cook it to produce a nourishing soup that is sufficient to feed a family of four.

The jars will be distributed to local communities that are already supported by the Rotary Club of Hillcrest.

Residents are encouraged to also drop off ingredients for the Jars of Hope or donate a warm blanket or an item of winter clothing.

All Covid-19 procedures will be followed on the day. To book your spot for the online event, visit https://www.rotaryhillcrest.co.za.

The cost per entry for the virtual walk is R60 per person.
