Crime spikes in Highway suburbs, warns security company
Homeowners have been urged to take precautions as criminals can strike anywhere and at anytime.
HIGHWAY suburbs, Hillcrest, Kloof and New Germany were hit the hardest by crime in the month of April. That’s according to data captured by Blue Security.
The company’s operations director, Brian Jackson said the most common offences committed include theft, housebreaking and robbery, trespassing and armed robbery.
“Homeowners are urged to take precautions as criminals can strike anywhere not only in the mentioned suburbs,” said Jackson.
He advised people to cut back any overgrown bushes that could serve as hiding places for intruders.
“Homeowners should lock up their tools and garden equipment in their shed or garage. Intruders are opportunistic and will take something if it is easy for them.
“They will also use these items to break into your home, so do not give them ideas,” said Jackson.
He added that domestic workers should regularly be reminded not to let any strangers onto the property.
Other suburbs mentioned by Blue Security included Morningside, Glenwood, Umbilo, Durban central, Bellair and Yellowwood Park.
