The group of volunteers called for people to take back their space to help restore Westville to its former glory.

Liesl Muhl from Keep Westville Beautiful urged people to take back their space for worthy causes.

The teams cleaned up the areas around the Westville Civic Centre and the swimming pool.

Another eco warrior, Peta Jane Storm from the Westville Conservancy said the items that they find during their clean-ups always leaves them puzzled.

“Our aim is to reclaim our area. It seems like vagrants have taken over and the only way to address that is to clean up the area regularly,” she said.

The team collected 53 bags filled with litter which were picked up by the Durban Solid Waste (DSW).

Muhl thanked DSW for responding to their call and everyone who joined the initiative. She also appealed for bin donations.

“At the moment, we have received nine and we need more so that people will not throw away their litter on the streets but use the bins. This will help in the fight against the litter issue,” she said.
