TMC learners pool superpowers for good

Learners from Thomas More College, donned their finest superhero outfits to raise funds for the school's ongoing outreach projects.

THOMAS More College’s Sponsored Walk took on a whole new look this year due to social distancing protocols and learners took to their neighbourhoods and beyond to raise funds through its event.

“It is hard not to miss the energy and excitement the TMC campus has experienced in previous years on this very special day. It has always been a day that the children, from Grade 000 to matric, have looked forward to as they begin their half-term long weekend,” said the school’s admissions and marketing co-ordinator, Juliet Hartley.

Hundreds of learners took up the challenge, with a few even taking part while on holiday in the Drakensberg or at the beach. The theme this year was super heroes and many were found among the school’s staff, learners and even a few of the parents.

“We aim to make our community and social partnership projects as sustainable as possible and the best form of sustainability is education. We have a long standing partnership with lower Molweni, where we are building our future leaders from both communities today. We also support our interns with their studies and have also continued contributing to food parcels for those in desperate need in our community,” said Hartley.

The money raised from the Sponsored Walk and other initiatives generates funding for the outreach work.

Each year the school has been able to raise more than R200 000 from the Sponsored Walk and it aims to either match or better that number this year to afford the aforementioned projects.
