Car thief caught in the act in Waterfall

The thief was sitting inside the car, which was marked 'for sale' outside a car dealership, when he was spotted by a security company's armed reaction unit.

A CAR thief was thwarted by a quick-acting Blue Security Armed Response unit while on patrol on Friday night in Waterfall.

According to Blue Security, the car thief was caught sitting inside a vehicle that was marked for sale outside a Waterfall dealership, just after midnight.

“Rather than make a run for it on foot, he decided he would try to lift the security boom by hand and then flee in his would-be new car. However, reaction officers apprehended him before he had the time to make a getaway,” said the security company in a statement.

The man was placed under arrest and handed over to Hillcrest SAPS for processing.

“The keyholder was thankful for the observant Blue officers and the heavy metal boom in place to prevent unauthorised vehicles from being taken off the premises,” said Blue Security.
