Two appear in court for staging kidnapping and armed robbery case

The complainant told the police that she was taken to KwaDabeka Hostel after being tied up, blindfolded and forced into the suspect’s vehicle at gunpoint.

TWO suspects, aged 22 and 34, who staged a kidnapping and armed robbery, appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, (Monday, 15 March) for perjury and defeating the ends of justice. 

According to KZN police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele, the complainant, a woman, alleged that she was kidnapped at gunpoint by two suspects.

“She told police that she was tied up, blindfolded and forced into the suspect’s vehicle.”

According to the victim, her ‘kidnappers’ took her to a KwaDabeka hostel where she was found by her boyfriend – after the alleged suspects demanded a ransom.

She reported that the boyfriend surrendered his vehicle keys while he was still arranging to get the money. Charges of kidnapping and robbery were opened for investigation. A thorough investigation was conducted and revealed that the case was false and the couple was placed under arrest,” said Mbele.
