Kloof SPCA helps rehome abandoned three-legged pup

The dog's former owners gave the clinic staff permission to amputate the dog's leg to save its life but then said they no longer wanted her post operation.

A FEMALE pooch, that was taken to the local Kloof and Highway SPCA’s clinic for a broken leg that needed to be amputated, has found its forever home.

Peggy Sue was admitted to the local non-profit organisation’s clinic with a badly broken leg.

To save the dog’s life, the team of veterinarians received permission from the dog’s owners to amputate her leg.

“It was the only option,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s Brigitte Ferguson.

After the operation, the clinic staff formed a special bond with Peggy Sue as her road to recovery needed a lot of love and attention.

“After so much care and recovery time the clinic staff were absolutely devastated when the owners turned around and said they no longer wanted her. Like a damaged toy she was discarded.”

The dedicated clinic staff said they would not give up on her and she was placed up for adoption.

“Despite the people who thought she looked ugly with three legs, or walked right past her when they saw her disability, Marni, her new owner, took one look at Peggy Sue and all she saw was this beautiful girl with so much personality and love,” said Ferguson.
