Westville Junior bids Dewar a heartfelt farewell

After 44 years of dedicated service to the local junior primary school, the dedicated educator, Margaret Dewar, has entered retirement.

THE deeply-loved and highly respected Margaret Dewar retired after a rare and remarkable 44 years of uninterrupted, loyal service to Westville Junior Primary School (WJPS).

Her decision to join the teaching profession was ignited by the many teachers who ensured she had a happy and successful school career. This, coupled with her special love of children and her intense desire to see them progress and succeed, has been central to the enormous contribution she made at the school.

Dewar joined WJPS in 1977 and has left an indelible impression on her many learners. The school’s head of department, Sharon Jenkins said Dewar is a dedicated educator, known for her empathetic, caring approach to teaching. Her wisdom and knowledge have inspired countless teachers who have taught alongside her. She has coached, mentored and motivated many new teachers to the profession.

“All who have had the good fortune, honour and privilege to work with her said they were profoundly struck by her professionalism along with her passion for teaching and her high moral and ethical standards,” said Jenkins.

When she was called upon to act as the principal several years ago, Dewar fulfilled the role with dignity and distinction. The reputation and success of the school is due, in large measure, to her unique and special touch. Her wealth of experience and expertise, her immense knowledge, boundless energy, cheerful smile and engaging sense of humour are just a few of the qualities her colleagues said they would miss. Her consistent willingness to help will also be missed.

“Westville Junior Primary School is indebted to Dewar for having devoted her entire professional life to the development and the wellbeing of thousands of children. Her dedication, compassion, kindness and her extraordinary work ethic have set her apart, and the staff at the school were unanimous in saying Mrs Dewar is one in a million,” she added.
