Pinetown rapist sentenced to 18 years imprisonment

The man was convicted for raping a 14-year-old girl in Nazareth in 2018.

A 24-YEAR-OLD Nazareth resident, Frans Magwagwa was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court for rape, recently. 

“In October 2018, at about 3am, a 14-year-old female was walking from a party held not far from her home in Nazareth. She came across the accused, who started following her. In the blink of an eye, he grabbed and raped her and fled the scene,” said KZN SAPS spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

A case of rape was reported at Pinetown police station and the docket was transferred to the Pinetown Family Violence and Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.

“Intensive investigations led to the arrest of Magwagwa, who made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced to 18 years behind bars,” said Mbele.
