Horrific M7 crash claims lives of two police officers

The police officers are said to be from the Cato Manor detective branch.

TWO police officers were killed in an accident on the M7 this morning while they were on their way to work.

According to advanced life support paramedic, Garrith Jamieson, a light motor vehicle and a truck collided at around 4.30am along the M7 at the N2 northbound off-ramp.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed the two police officers, aged 37 and 40 years old, were from the Cato Manor detective branch.

Jamieson said both officers suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.

He said the truck driver sustained minor injuries.

It is believed the truck’s brakes failed before the traffic light and collided with the policemen’s vehicle.

According to Jamieson, the truck come to a halt at the Durban bound carriageway, towards the Bluff.

Mbele confirmed a case of culpable homicide had been opened at the Bellair police station. 

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
