Armed gang tie up family during house robbery, 2 arrested

One of the suspects was found in possession of a gun which was stolen from a security guard in KwaDabeka.

A 45-YEAR OLD man was arrested in KwaDabeka following an armed house robbery in KwaXimba near Cato Ridge on Wednesday, 20 January.

According to KZN police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele, a group of armed suspects entered a house on Ntabeni Road and tied the family members with cable ties.

The suspects robbed the family of flat screen TVs, a DVD player, amplifier, PlayStation, cellphones and clothes before fleeing the scene with complainant’s vehicle.

Mbele said a case of robbery was opened at Umsunduzi SAPS for further investigation. “The District Task Team which worked around the clock followed up information regarding the suspects involved in the robbery.

“They proceeded to KwaDabeka where a 45-year-old wanted suspect was found and was arrested. The man was found in possession of a pistol with ammunition,” said Mbele.

She said investigations revealed that the firearm was stolen from a security guard in KwaDabeka.

“The suspect appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates Court today (25 January) for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will now join his co-accused, aged 27, who was arrested on the same day for a  robbery in Klaarwater, Mariannhill.

“The suspect was found with the vehicle that was stolen during the house robbery in KwaXimba. The suspect appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court for possession of a stolen vehicle,” said Mbele.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the team for the apprehension of house robbers. “The team will work tireless to ensure that the remaining suspects are brought to book,” he said.
