Black mamba constricts around snake rescuer’s head

The deadly reptile also defecated on Evans' head.

NICK Evans, a local snake expert, ventured into an informal settlement recently to retrieve a deadly black mamba from a tree overhanging a stream.

“Once captured, I was climbing back down (the tree), using one hand to hold the mamba’s head and my other to hold onto branches. For the first time I had a mamba wrap around my neck and ‘constrict’ me. It did a good job of that and I couldn’t believe it!” exclaimed Evans.

He said the 2.57m snake first wrapped itself around his head and blocked his vision while rubbing excrement over his face.

The tree the 2.85kg snake was found in was surrounded by informal housing and he noted that it had minimal hunting ground.

“It’s clearly had run-ins with people before as it had a few old wounds, including one that resembled a stab wound of sorts. It did well to live to this size and age, but time to move to a human-free, natural paradise,” said Evans.
