Frustrations mount for Mariannhill family as GBV murder trial postponed

According to the deceased's mother, her daughter, Thandeka Thwala was in a coma for three weeks before she passed away. 

AFTER waiting months for her daughter’s murder trial to begin, Thandeka Thwala’s case was once again postponed by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court due to the prosecutor being absent.

The family of the young Mariannhill woman had to suffer additional disappointment and frustration on Thursday, 10 December – the last day the country commemorated 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.

In her last interview with the Highway Mail, Thwala’s mother, Ntombizodwa Nzimande said she was unhappy with the investigating officer.

There have been allegations that he did not gather evidence correctly. 

According to Nzimande, her daughter, Thwala, was assaulted by her boyfriend who is currently out on bail.

The case was postponed to 26 February 2021.  

Thwala passed away in hospital on Sunday, 8 December 2019 after being in a coma for three weeks.
