“Then there is also emotional violence and trauma at many levels caused by many factors. Women and children in their homes, at work, at schools, on our streets, in our communities suffer this form of violence for various reasons.

She pointed out that another blight of our democracy is the violence of poverty, starvation, humiliation and degradation, especially against women and children.

“Poverty, inequality and unemployment are conditions under which violence thrives,” said Smith.

She emphasised that no one deserves to be beaten or abused in any way especially women and children.

“We must re-enforce that women do not deserve to be victims of abuse in any manner. I do not want to be a victim of abuse do you? So let’s stand together and support one another,” she said.
