Search for Hillary mum’s killer continues weeks after her tragic death

Police confirmed that there have not been any arrests for the murder of Jessica Weyers whose body was found last month.

THERE are still no answers for the mother of Jessica Weyers, whose body was found at Inanda’s Newtown A at a sports ground over four weeks ago.

Both hands were cut and Weyer’s throat had been slit.

On  Monday, 2 November police released a statement saying a murder investigation was underway after the gruesome discovery by community members.

“Today at 7am, a body of an unknown female in her 20s was found by community members at the sportsground at Newtown A with her throat slit and hands cut,” said Col Thembeka Mbele on Monday, 2 November.

By the Thursday afternoon of the same week, 5 November, Weyer’s mother, Leanne Claassens identified her body at the Phoenix mortuary.

Claassens, who held a private cremation for her daughter on 15 November, said she had not been given any further updates on the investigation into her 23-year-old daughter’s killing.

Investigation

By the beginning of December police at the KwaZulu-Natal provincial media centre confirmed the case had not resulted in any arrests.

“The matter is still under investigation and no arrest has been made,” said Mbele on Tuesday.

“We are appealing to anyone who might have information about the suspects involved to contact Inanda police on 031 506 7072 on or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” added Mbele.

When asked about the lack of communication between the family of the deceased about any updates in the case, Mbele advised the family to contact the station commander at Inanda SAPS if they are not pleased with the progress of the investigation.
