Police confirm Pinetown armed suspect shot, killed by motorist

Once again, the intersection between Josiah Gumede Road (Old Main Road) and Anderson Road in Pinetown has been the scene of a fatal shooting.

POLICE from the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provincial media centre have confirmed one of the three suspects, believed to have been involved in an armed robbery in Pinetown this morning, was shot dead by a motorist.

The suspects allegedly tried to rob the motorist at knifepoint near the taxi ranks in the Pinetown CBD.

The incident, which took place where Josiah Gumede Road (formerly known as Old Main Road) crosses Anderson Road, was not the first to have taken place at that intersection recently.

In March, police detained a 29-year-old suspect following a shooting at the same intersection on the Monday 23 March.

In February last year police warned people that the intersection was a hot-spot for criminal activities.
