The seven-month-old dog needed to be sedated so the veterinary staff could remove the snare and treat the wound.
A SEVEN-MONTH-OLD crossbreed, Spoti, was caught in a snare in KwaDabeka recently and is now being rehabilitated at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
The pooch’s owner contacted the Kloof and Highway SPCA, requesting assistance and the organisation’s inspectorate assistant, Philani Nzama, rushed out to collect the injured dog.
The snare wire was embedded deep into a wound in the dog’s front left paw. According to the owner, the dog was missing for almost two weeks when it returned home, injured and dehydrated.
The dog was rushed to the SPCA’s clinic and was sedated by the veterinarian and clinic staff so they could remove the wire and treat the deep wound.

“Spoti’s wound was cleaned, his paw was bandaged and he received pain medication and anti-biotics. He is a lovely, gentle dog who looks happier every day and will be reunited with his grateful owner as soon as his wound has healed,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s inspectorate manager, Sue Noakes.
The clinic staff are monitoring the dog’s progress daily.
“We would like to make the public aware of the dangers of snares and the immense pain and suffering they cause all animals. Please be alert when walking in a bushy area and remove snares immediately if spotted or alert your nearest SPCA,” said Noakes.
