Love still blooms for Pinetown couple after 65 years

Pinetown Dorothy and Graham Hardie celebrated 65th wedding anniversary.

GRAHAM Hardie knew the very first day he set his eyes on his wife Dorothy that she was the one for him.

The Pinetown couple recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, saying they are still very much smitten by each other.

Graham and Dorothy met in Yorkshire. “I had just returned from the army and went with my friends to a fair.

“We saw a group of girls, Dorothy stood out for me and told my friends that ‘I will marry that girl’,” said Graham.

On September 10, the couple were married with Dorothy wearing a blue dress, her favourite colour.

                                                 

Dorothy said they stayed in three other countries before settling in South Africa.

“We are very close, we are friends first more than anything which is the reason we have lasted so long together. We also share the same interests.”

Graham said his wife was an exceptional mother and the rock of the home which he said are the qualities he loves most about Dorothy.

Dorothy has been involved with the Durban Bowling Association and has played been a member of the Lahee Park Bowling Club for many years.

Graham said he did not play much bowls as his job of being a chief fire officer kept him very busy.

“He worked in Pinetown and New Germany for many years as we have stayed in the Pinetown area for 45 years,” said Dorothy.

At the age of 87, Graham said he keeps busy by being active in the family business.

They have three children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
