No response to 3-week water leak in Waterfall

Despite three reference numbers, the eThekwini Municipality said it was not aware of the water leak in Waterfall.

A WATERFALL resident has called on the eThekwini Municipality to increase the quality and pace on its service delivery after he reported a water leak on Tuesday, 25 August – the water has been left to continue to flow freely.

“It seems as if someone has come through and placed a cap on it as it was initially a fountain of water pouring out, but why is it still leaking? A quick job has clearly been done,” said Bruce Henderson.

The water meter that is leaking, on the council’s side, feeds a property that has been vacant since it burnt down in May last year.

“I think that it is a disgrace that the council has yet to come through and properly fix it. You log a fault with them and you are told that you need to wait a few days before you call again. It is a waste of water. We are told to conserve water often and then stuff like this continues to happen,” said the concerned resident.

The DA PR ward councillor in the area, Nonsikelelo Msomi said she was contacted by Henderson and followed up with his reference numbers and was also issued a reference number regarding the water leak issue.

“I did a follow up after 24 hours but, to date, no one has fixed the leak. I don’t think the Water Department takes their work seriously as they spend the tax payer’s money for adverts about saving water but they do not respond to the community when they report water leaks and other issues,” said Msomi.

The eThekwini Municipality’s spokesman, Msawakhe Mayisela, said the City was not aware of the leak and, now that it had been brought its attention, the fault would be repaired.
